You can report if you or someone you know has been bitten by an animal. New York City Health Code requires that all such animal bites, including bites from dogs and cats, be reported.
Veterinary Public Health Services receives these reports and coordinates follow up with the animal, the owner, and the person bitten to assess the risk of rabies. Guidance can be provided on next steps for the person bitten. Promptly reach out to a medical provider, emergency room, or urgent care center to learn about rabies treatment options.
All personal information submitted will be held in strict confidence.
The City does not accept complaints about animals that have been bitten by other animals.
