Call
911 if the building's parapet or any other part:
- Is dangerous
- Has falling debris that is an immediate hazard
- Is collapsing or will collapse
As of January 1, 2024, every building with a parapet must have an annual observation of the parapet performed. A parapet is the part of any wall entirely above the roof line.
Parapet observations must be completed on all buildings with parapets fronting the public right-of-way, regardless of height, except for:
- Detached 1- or 2- family homes
- Buildings with a fence or other barrier preventing access to the exterior wall
DOB does not require parapet observation reports be submitted. Property owners must maintain the observation reports for at least 6 years and must make the reports available to DOB upon request.
